give this show a chance

Is anyone watching the Event?  I am always a little hesitent about watching a new show.  It stinks to find a show you like and have it cancelled on you.  You feel like you've wasted your time.  I hadn't really watched any new shows this fall but I noticed more and more of my friends "liking" this show on facebook and I decided to check it out.

I am really loving this show.  It is a bit of a mystery like Lost.  You are definately trying to figure out what is going on.  There is a bit of the jumping from one time frame to another but not excessive and not annoying.  It is a conspiracy show which has you wondering who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys?  This show also moves pretty fast which reminded me of 24.  There are definately some hold your breath, what the heck is going on, are you kidding me moments.  This show definately holds your interest.  Also I have to say that Jason Ritter as Sean Walker is fabulous and very believable as a normal person caught up in something bigger than himself.  You are definately cheering him on.

So I say check it out.  You can watch the first four episodes on NBC or Hulu and the show comes on Monday nights.   If you've watched it let me know what you think.

I haven't seen this one yet. I'm like you every year I find a show I like and it's cancelled. Does that mean we have bad taste or the makers of shows aren't as sophisticated as us?

kelly, obviously it means the makers of the shows aren't sophisticated...lol.  Actually there are a lot of shows that I don't think they give a chance to find an audience and grow.  They want everything to be an instant hit but it takes a while for people to find the shows, even longer if they move them around the schedule.  I love Cougar Town but I never watched it until it was on reruns and just happened on it one night.

Nope, have not seen this one.  But I saw the hype for it!  I just do not watch a lot of TV.

I checked it out - yay for internet streaming *cough* - and I liked it. It's a good conspiracy scifi fun popcorn show with aliens. It has all the right ingredients to make up good entertainment, and nice ambiguous characters. It's also nice to see that the government spy types are not portrayed as absolute incompetents nor as evil puppeteers behind the scenes so far because that trope gets old fast. The inner workings of Sophia's people are also interesting.. I'm gonna keep watching.

I know what you mean with shows that grow on you and then get canceled. For example, I really liked Kings but that never went anywhere.

Doc, check it out tonight.  I know you watch movies but TV shows can be so much better because they have the time to really build the characters and story

Utemia - yep it does not have the cartoon simple good and evil characters which makes it much more interesting. Well I guess the DB Sweeney and the girl holding hostage are just plain bad though when they showed her son you had to wonder about her motivations.  People can do bad things for a good reason, like on the plane.

I am seriously addicted to 24 with Keifer Sutherland.  We started watching it in May.   We're watching so much of 24 we haven't had time to watch any of the new stuff this fall.  Even Dancing with the Stars isn't getting the treatment I usually give it.  It's getting so we watch the second night just to get an overview of the night before and see who gets booted off.

I'm just about to start season 7 after finishing season 6 last night.  But there's a 24 movie we have to get that is a bridge between the two seasons.

Jack Bauer rocks!

24 is a lot of fun! Personally, I like the earlier seasons best.

If you don't know it yet, I recommend TVTropes. I linked the article for 24 .. it's pretty funny and interesting.

I loved 24 too.  I like the pace and I love Kiefer Sutherlands voice.  I didn't see every season.  Someday I will watch them all on dvd.

So great news The Event has been picked up for the whole season so all of us who are afraid to commit to a show that just disappears can now feel free to get into The Event season one.

thanks.  I perused the site.  It was interesting.  Got some info about the coming up seasons but not enough to spoil anything for me.  We have two more to go plus the movie.

Someday I will watch them all on dvd.

it's so much easier to stream it from netflix.  We started out getting the DVD's and then found taking it right off the computer so much easier and convenient.

I love TvTropes.org because they don't really spoil the fun but open ones eyes to all the tricks the writers and showproduces use. The style is a mix between satire, irony and literary studies that create a very enjoyable reading experience - for me anyways.

I liked the episode of The Event.. but whoa, the President was really playing hardball.

Thanks Loca, but i missed it. between the new refrigerator (that we are spending a small fortune renovating the house to just get it inside) and the huge tree that decided to go whump in the yard, my nights have been kind of busy.  I will check it out in a coupleof weeks. I was leery about it as I have often found the hype on TV shows to be greatly exaggerated, but since you and Utemia seem to think it is worth it, I will take a look.  I am not watching anything regularly now.
