Some mini book reviews

The Late Lamented Molly Marx by Sally Koslow

I really enjoyed this book about a woman who is deceased, we get to see what's going on with her family currently, how they are dealing with her death, look back at her memories and find out who killed Molly.  The actual who did it is really a small part of the book.  This book was well and engaging.  I liked Molly, hated some other characters okay mainly the horrible, cheating husband and his lady friend.  Somehow I found it in my heart to forgive Molly for her indiscretion.  Funny how that works.  I liked that this book really kept my attention and moved along.  Of course, I wanted to hit rewind, fix Molly's life and let her keep living.

Grade A

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen

I really tried to like this book.  I love Pride and Prejudice.  I like brain eating zombies.  Why not mix up the two?  It could be fun?  Maybe?  Not so much.  I had a hard time even finishing this book.  I didn't enjoy it.  I just thought why?  The worst thing is now that this book was a big success, its' started a trend, now there's a Sense and Sensibility with the swamp thing so some such nonsense.  And I am not some literature snob but really it just seems wrong.

Grade F

The Court of the Air by Steven Hunt

I have been drawn into the world of Steampunk mainly because I love some of the artwork and fabulous costumes, I've seen that are inspired by it.  So I decided to delve into mostly unfamiliar territory of science fiction.  Sometimes I like it (Catherine Asaro) sometimes I am dazed and confused and can't even finish them.  I enjoyed this book though I did have trouble staying interested at times.  This is the story of two orphans who are being hunted, a violent government overthrow, a who can we trust story line, a communist and dictators are bad theme.  My favorite were the steammen something much more interesting in a robot.

Grade B

Okay that's enough for today.  I am currently reading Little Giant of Aberdeen County and so far am loving it.  What are you reading?

Me, too.

I just finished reading "Dereliction of Duty" by Buzz Patterson.  He was the carrier of the Nuclear football under Clinton.  What a mess he reported.  Alot of the stuff in this book just made me soooo mad.

So I think I need to read something less political and more fluffy for my next read!  NOT.  I hate fluffy!

On my desk right now I have "Darwin Under The Microscope" so maybe that will be my next book.

I'm reading what all white supremicist, racist, sexist, homophobic, teabagging redneck Republicans who post "sad" articles would read.

I recently finished reading a book titled "Green Rider" by Kristen Britian.  It was alright I guess, not quite as fantasy-esque as is usual with that genre, which is a good thing.  I don't see how people aren't sick to death of dragons by now.  Or should I just say sick of Anne McCaffery?

I really haven't been reading so much recently.  It used to be that I would read 2-3 novels a week, while now I have a hard time finding even one I want to read.

I just reread Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. Great book, great story about the madness of war. It takes place during WW2 on an airfield in Italy. A must read for everybody.

I haven't read that one since college, maybe I'll find a copy for a re-read. I agree it is a great one.

yes, sounds like something I would like to read as well.  Never have.    I will put it on my list and see if I can find it.

Catch 22 has become idiomatic since. Yossarian, the main character is a bomber on an airplane. All he wants to do is get out and go home because war is crazy and madness. The only way to get out is to be declared crazy by the shrink, but anybody who turns crazy in war and wants to get out of it is actually very sane, so he can't go and has to stay.

The story describes the assortment of characters very well, and there are very odd ones among them.

The whole book is brilliantly written satire and very enjoyable.

I decided to share a chapter of catch 22 so you get an idea, but since it's rather long I'll post it on under my blog. The  book is not written in chronological order, and chapters can stand alone and still make sense. This particular one is about a mission to Bologna..
