I have been having problems sleeping for probably over a year now.  I did get a prescription for Ambien and it does really help.  Actually, it completely knocks me out which is a good thing when you need to sleep.  When I started taking it, I didn't take it every night.  If I had a night or two where I felt like I got no sleep then I would take it.  Well eventually I started taking it every night.  I wasn't thinking last week and took after I had been drinking and it made me so out of it that it scared me.  So I decided that I need to wean myself away from it.  Oh and not take it when I've been drinking - oops.

So I've stopped taking it even though it's so tempting.  Of course, I'm not sleeping for crap.  I just make myself lay there and obviously at some point I sleep.  This last week was spring break so I could sleep later in the morning since the boys didn't have school.  It's going to be hard to adjust to the school schedule again this next week.  Why does it seem like you can't ever sleep well until after 5 am?  Then I take a nap in the afternoon which I know is the wrong thing to do when you can't fall asleep at night.  It's just so easy to "rest my eyes" at nap time and then I'm out.

Okay this is turning into a pointless, thoughtless ramble but what can I say, I haven't been getting enough sleep.

I used to drink a big glass of milk before bed for my "sleeping pill" but no more! If I do that now I'm up peeing all night...

Are you sure you're not pregnant?  That's what I remember about being pregnant was never being able to sleep because I had to get up and pee.  I guess it had something to do with the little monster kicking my bladder.

This is a hard one. You need to sleep, but you don't want to stay up all night because you didn't take an ambien. So true about the sleep at 5 a.m.

I'm probably not going to endear myself to you by saying this, but I have never had problems sleeping.  My biggest problem is waking up...

I feel you on having trouble sleeping. I am bad about getting in a cycle of taking benadryl every night. I get a mental dependency on it.

Ambien is great because it puts you right to sleep and metabolizes fast so you don't wake up groggy.

I'm sure you have read and heard all the things about sleep...exercise, don't do bright, wakeful things right before bed (computer, TV, etc.), all that.

I wish you success with your quest. Morning comes early and not getting enough sleep really makes it rough to get through the day.

I know I should examine and change my bedtime habits.
