My son turned 12 years old today.  That doesn't really seem possible.  I keep telling them that they have to stop growing because I'm not old enough to have kids that old.  His number one gift request is a chainmail to wear to the Scarborough Faire.  I don't know why he wants something that he can only wear for dress up but I guess if that's what he wants that's what he wants.  I found an online tutorial to make chainmail from the tabs from pop cans and he looked horrified.  I guess that's not going to happen.

We went to dinner to celebrate his birthday last night because my husband had to be out of town today.  It was fun and grandma helped subsidize the dinner but when I got home I looked at the stack of bills and felt guilty.  We went to the hibachi place and the boys were very impressed.  I think my youngest liked it the best.  He's still talking about how the chef made a smiley face and set it on fire.

My birds are back.  I have barn swalllows that have nested underneath my front porch for three years now.  I think they are neat and can't understand people who want to chase nature away.  I love seeing the little babies grow every year.  I have to admit that it can be messy but I just hose and sweep off the pavement and it's all good.  I say it's just like real babies, they're neat except for the poop.

We went to visit hubby's grandma for a bit today.  I got to hold my little niece while she slept.   She is so sweet.  I love babies and don't realize how much I miss having one to hold until I get one to hold again.  My own personal baby days are over but I can still enjoy cuddling other babies.  It's amazing to me how quickly the time has passed since my own boys were that little.  Oh and on the nature watching front, I saw a lizard at grandma's house.  I guess when they first moved out to the country there were horned toads but they're all gone now.  I don't know what kind he was but he was big.  I tried to get a picture of it but Bret scared it away.

Some more exciting news is that I got my new Stampers Sampler in the mail today.  I had two cards published in this issue.  They're on page 46 of the April/May issue if anyone wants to check it out.  It's strange because there is such a huge gap in the submission time before publication that I almost don't even remember making them.  Right now I am working on Halloween submissions when I'm seeing bunny rabbits everywhere.  I guess that's how it works because at Halloween time there will be a call for bunny rabbits.

The old Ring tabs worked very well for that, and looked awesome! I guess what you found is the new burp tabs. Do you have alink? I would like to see if they are that good.

Kids do make you realize how time passes so fast! Only one more year before the teens hit!

Here you go.  I remember making necklaces from the old ring tabs at picnics when I was a kid.

They look real good! Shame your son does not like them. Maybe it was the model?

My birds are back.

I'm sure you've read my posts about the wonderful bird life I have in my back yard.  I'm like you in that I love having nature close to me.  And what's a bit of poop between friends?

I hope your son has a happy birthday but chainmail!  When I was 12 I don't think I even knew what chainmail was...  Kids these days, huh?

The design is kinda crappy and girly (even if the model wasn't a girl), but it looks pretty cool otherwise, especially that shot from the back. Redesign it based on something from an illustrated King Arthur book and I think it would look pretty awesome.

I don't know if they have it in Australia but here the National Wildlife Federation has a program where you can get your backyard certified as a backyard wildlife habitat.   I need more foliage and a water source but I would like to do that eventually.  I would love to put in a frog pond at some point.

Yep, he definately has aspirations of being a rennaisance faire geek.

I think it would definately have to be more of a shirt instead of the design displayed but I think you're right.

If it was more shirt looking and a manly man wearing it maybe it would have been different.  I think he thinks he needs the super expensive, authentic period pieces he sees on the websites.
