I do it all. Get my valuable input on everything from politics to music to movie quotes to my favorite tv shows and websites. I'll add some things about home, family, marriage, kids, cooking. It's everything you never wanted to know about my crazy life.

First of all I still don't know why we invaded Iraq in the first place.  Yeah, I know the excuses etc. but I don't think any of them hold water.  There were no weapons of mass destruction.   None of the 9/11 terrorists were from Iraq or receiving funding from or through Iraq.  There actually has recently been a study which the administration is trying to hush up that basically states that prior to our invasion of Iraq there was NO link between Iraq and Al Queda.  Yes, Sadam Hussein was a bad guy.  Yes, if we could actually have a strong democracy in the middle east that would benefit our country.   It's been five years and I don't think we are any closer to having a peaceful, stable democracy in Iraq.

So we spend billions of dollars.  We use our soldiers up with multiple deployments, extended deployments, stop loss orders, etc.  We treat the injured soldiers like crap when they come home.  We take back their enlistment bonus since they didn't fulfill their enlistment because of that tiny detail like their leg got blown off.  We tell them that their mental issues were a previously existing personality disorder instead of giving them the support of a PTSD diagnosis.  At least the horrendous quality of some of the VA facilities was publicized and hopefully fixed.

I DO support our troops.  I want our government to fulfill the promises they made to the troops.  I no longer support their mission.  I think they have an impossible mission.  What is victory in Iraq?  Sadam Hussein is out of power.  A new government has been established by democratic election.  Does there have to be 100% peace with no future insurgent attacks for our troops to come home?  I'm afraid that day will never come.  Yes, I realize that we still have bases in Japan and Germany.  Those governments surrendered and when the war was over no one continued to shoot at our troops.  I just don't see how that compares to this situation.  There is no head insurgent who is going to surrender.

So these are the problems what the the solutions?  I wish I knew.  I am afraid that if we leave the situation in Iraq will become an all out civil war.  I know that the insurgents will not pack up their guns and say, "hooray the Americans are gone, I'm going home".   I don't know that there is a way for us to leave Iraq with honor.  I'm hoping there is someone who is smarter than me who will figure out a way for that to happen.

Obama sez he'll have us out of there right away....

Hillary ain't promisin' nuthing as getting caught making such promises and then not living up to them would be disastrous for her first 100 days (and though I don't care for the woman at all, I'll give her a little credit for her being smart enough to realize that we can't just walk away... we have to leave order and security behind us as we go and if we can't or don't, it'll be a political and diplomatic mess of the worst kind).

McCain has said we'll be there as long as it takes, until the place is secure and safe.  Gee, that would seem to be what Hillary isn't saying, but seems inclined to do.

Which candidate is it again that you favor?  Oh, wait, don't tell me... uh, yeah, the one that won't admit she'll keep troops there and perform more of the nation building business that her husband set us up for in his term in the White House.

Uh, yeah, you were asking when we'll be out of Iraq?  Consider that vote of yours carefully again...

When will we ever leave Japan?

When will we ever leave (insert current military operations here)?

When will we ever leave Japan?

I brought this up in the article.  No one is shooting at our soldiers in Japan.  It is in our national interest to have strategic bases throughout the world.  I think having a base located in Japan is vastly different than our prescence and involvement in Iraq.

Which candidate is it again that you favor? Oh, wait, don't tell me... uh, yeah, the one that won't admit she'll keep troops there and perform more of the nation building business that her husband set us up for in his term in the White House.

Do you have Clinton confused wtih Bush?  I don't think President Clinton had a big legacy of nation building.  Actually this is an issue that I'm with Hillary on.  I think she is willing to look at the big picture and not make promises that pander to the anti-war movement.  I wish we had never gone to Iraq but I think to just leave a la Obama would be a disaster.  I'm also not with John Sydney McCain on the 100 years thing either.

My question remains.  What is success in Iraq?  What is victory in Iraq?  Can we leave Iraq with honor?

Who put us in Kosovo and made our troops subject to taking orders from the UN and other allies?

So please try again...

There was a big difference between Kosovo and Iraq. The people of Kosovo DECLARED their independence. We didn't go in with jet fighters and "liberate" them. Somehow I don't think the people of Iraq will be erecting a statue of GWB in a few years like the Kosovites are erecting a statue of Bill Clinton.

I can understand where you are coming from Loca. I usually don't agree with your points of view since you tend to use feelings quite too often to make decisions on what you believe in. I think it's time we come to the realization that no amount of belief or faith can change the fact that it's a cruel world out there and that sometimes one has to strike the hammer first when it comes to our survival. I am all about preserving life, but not at the cost of my own. Them before us is my modo.

Being an American, I wanna believe that our entering Iraq had more to do with doing the right thing and less with expanding our money and power appetite. Many here complain how Bush has done everything to benefit rich corporations yet day after day we see how large corporations are getting hit by the economy problems we are having. I find it hard to believe that Big Oil, Big Corp and the Bush Administration intended to make big bucks at the cost of the Nations economy. That would be like committing business suicide.

There are other factors we continue to ignore and that is the citizen factor. People who were and still are financially irresponsible, who chose to spend money they should have saved, who used credit cards like free money, who bought house they couldn't afford if a problem arrived, who simply felt living life meant having the latest in technology even if they went broke getting it. The ridiculous sales of Nintendo Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, iPod Touch, iPhones and HDTVs is more than enough proof during the years Bush claimed we had a strong economy yet everyone else had doubts.

We also need to keep in mind how other countries are not happy having us at the top of the food chain and would love to see us fall faster than the stock market and would probably do anything to make it happen. Our enemies (and we do have them, even when they claimed to be allies) have accomplished a goal to divide the people of this Nation and we spend so much time looking inside our boarders for the bad guys who screwed up our economy that we have ignored those who would and have taken advantage of our guard being down. We have become our own worst enemy and we are paying the price for it.

We refuse to admit we are the cause of our problems and instead look to the Gov't for a guinea pig to take the blame. I have to wonder how a Republican became President in a Nation where people love to be pampered by the Gov't?
