Okay, I don't pretend to be all pretentious and music snobbish and that my songs are the best songs of 2007.  These are just my favorite songs of 2007.  Of course, everyone out there should like what I like because I have very discriminating taste.  I know I have discriminating taste because I only eat Fancy Feast cat food.

The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger

Feist - 1,2,3,4 (best song in Ipod commercial)

Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko

The Shins - Phantom Limb (the Shins will change your life)

The Fratellis - Flathead

The View - Superstar Tradesmen (best handclapping song)

Peter, Bjorn and John - Young Folks (best whistling song)

Beck - Timebomb

Lily Allen - LDN (warning * a total earworm but I like it)

A Fine Frenzy - Almost Lover

Bright Eyes - Four Winds

Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day

Missy Higgins - Peachy

Panda Bear - Bros (the best song to veg out too, it's long)

Paoli Nutini - Last Request (best baby making song of the year)

Rogue Wave - Lake Michigan (best song in a zune commercial)

I really like that Feist song as well.
I also like the fact that you picked 16 favorite songs, not like a Top Ten or even Top 20 list.
I swear, though, Aside from The Shins and Beck, I haven't heard of any the others you've listed.
That's how 80s I am.

I lvoe the Feist CD and linked them on my site too! I enjoy listening to Beck, Linkin Park but it depends on the songs. Peter, Bjorn and John the same too!

The others, nope, not sure unless I hear them to see if they are familiar!

You're right though, everyone's list would be different!

Maybe we'll be able to put music on the new improved JU so I can assault everyone with my musical taste ~or maybe not.

I love the 80's too when I'm in that 80's mood.  Check out some of these songs though, the Fratelli's are my fave new band.

I actually just listed songs I liked and then counted them up.  I suppose I should have done 17 for 2007 or 7 for 2007 or 27 for 2007 but it is what it is.

While I know the names of a lot of the bands on your list and have heard most of the songs, I am not really into a lot of the indie sound these days. That said, I do like the Feist song (she is just amazing) and Beck, as far as I'm concerned, can do no wrong.

I guess the best answer to this article is to write one of my own, which I will do and post really soon. Thanks for the inspiration.

I'll be looking for it but really listen to the Fratelli's again. I think they are so much fun. I hope to see them the next time they get to my area. I really don't consider them to be an indie sound at all.

Also the View is a very guitar driven band. They never get played on the radio here. That's one of the reasons I love the internet, I can discover great music from other people's playlists that I might never have heard otherwise.

Oh and Paolo, all I have to hear is the first note of his voice and I want to start ripping clothes off. That's the power of music.

Linkin Park's Shadow of the Day is a completely different sound for them and they lyrics just stay with me as much as the melody.

Hey sorry it has taken me so long to respond to this (and to get up an article of my own on this subject). I have heard The Fratellis and, while they sound good, just don't excite me. As for Paolo, well he might make YOU want to rip your clothes off but I'm afraid he just doesn't do this for me. To be honest, there is no male artist who does this to me (with the possible exception of Jeff Buckley but then, I only end up naked in front of the CD player and my wife just has too many questions when she finds me like that... :

I am hoping to have my article up in the next few days.

lol - I'll be watching for your article. I need to find some new music to inspire me. I'm in a music rut. I just keep listening to the songs I already love but I haven't found anything new that excites me lately.

I do know this great new hip hop band from Downunder called JC Ronikal. I'd be happy to send you some of their music, if you're interested (yes, it is my band).

You shouldn't have mentioned that dyno... Do you have any tracks on unearthed or are you signed these days?

Loca: You've got good taste - I like most of the songs you've picked. One of my guilty music likes is Lily Allen's new album. After hearing Kate Nash I've come to the frightening conclusion that I have a major crush on British "guv'nor" pop starlets. It's a terrible thing but I can't do much about it except deny it publicly.

If you liked all them, you may like this obscure little Ozzy outfit that I've just discovered. Their track Waiting is one of my favourite of the last few months. It's not British guv'nor pop but it's got a little Franz Ferdinand and a pretty awesome beat.

Cacto,

It would be nice if we were signed but alas, we're not as yet. JC Ronikal are on the Unearthed website. Here is the link:

and here is a link to our myspace page

As for Little Red, they sound a lot like early Custard, one of my favourite Aussie bands of all time. All three tracks on their Unearthed page are great, but 'Waiting' is the stand-out track for sure. Apparently, they are awesome live. Now, if they'd only come to Sydney...

Why don't you just make me feel old and out of touch Loca! I've heard of some of the bands you mentioned, but none of the songs.

I guess your list here is a good place to start catching up. ;~D

I guess not being involved in the church youth group, and having only 1 kid left at home takes its toll.
