I do it all. Get my valuable input on everything from politics to music to movie quotes to my favorite tv shows and websites. I'll add some things about home, family, marriage, kids, cooking. It's everything you never wanted to know about my crazy life.

I just wanted to send an apology to anyone that I annoyed, pissed off, irritated or aggravated in any way over the past few weeks. My intention was not to bring more divisiveness to this site or to the issues. I will admit that I got caught up in my emotions over certain issues that I care deeply about, the number one issue being immigration. What I had wanted to do was show the other side of the argument. JU seems to be so right-leaning and I have noticed a lot of liberal bashing. I just wanted to open up the discussion so there was a true debate not just a lot of me too's.

But I now realize that I was going too far over the top. I was alienating people and causing people to tune out everything I said, including some points that I think had merit. It's a hard line to balance to stand up for your beliefs and convictions and still not be polarizing or hateful. I did not intentionally try to villify any individual. I am going to continue to write and respond about current events that I care about. I will try to respond with more care and thoughtfulness. I want to take the high road. I may have to take a deep breath and come back to JU because sometimes my first instinct is to attack.

I want to apologize specifically to LW and Gid. I respect both of you and have enjoyed interacting with you over my years on JU. I think we can disagree without being ugly or hateful.

Hey, that is why we are here . We can take it, we are used to that. and also to keep them amused. They get very lonely when no one challenges them and they keep asking: where are the Liberals, they have nothing to say? but they are not that bad. Just keep it cool, that frustrates them even more. Democracy and free speech will be boring without them. and Liberals worry too much about others and will be at each others thoat without them. Both are needed to make life bearable.

It is a right leaning site Amy and you should be adding me to that list of people you have annoyed or pissed off.

I was just more gentle that gid or whip because I am so damned fond of you. But some of your comments were way over the top, you were intentionally being obtuse and argumentative just for the sake of being obtuse and argumentative. I did say more than once "come on Amy" blah blah BLAH.

I love your passion for certain things and will would support you till death to have the right to say them.

TA,

Let's throw a little gasoline on the fire, shall we? We are not a "they" and we are not any more united in our opinions than the left. And it is the rash stereotypes and generalizations (ironically the very same things you decry) that are the sticking point. You're no more tolerant than the most virulent Klansman, TA, you just choose different areas of intolerance.

Now, to the OP,

Loca,

Just so you understand, I appreciate your position on the issues. I may not agree, but that's my right, as your opinion is yours. Don't change on the issues; if we're going to deal with these issues in a meaningful way, we need to understand all sides. But we can be civil in the disagreements.

Like MM, I'm very fond of you as an individual, Loca. I'm just not as good at holding my tongue. I'm sure you can appreciate THAT (LOL).

Apology accepted. Now let's get back to civil discussions.

Apology accepted, Loca, and I offer mine in return for exchanging barb-for-barb over this past month or so.

Like Gid, I've always enjoyed interacting with you, and I tend to go over the top myself on some issues. I admire your tenacity, articulateness (is it just me or do a disproportionate number of liberals on this site have atrocious grammar, sentence construction, and spelling?) and willingness to go forth in battle in spite of being hopelessly outnumbered in this little corner of the net.

Lately, though, many of us have noticed your arguments taking on a far nastier tone, and it just seemed so unlike you that it left us with our jaws hanging...

Don't ever stop expressing yourself, Loca, and standing up for what you believe in. Just recognize that on some issues, particularly ones that the other party has some real, personal connection to or experience with (in my case, abortion and immigration) it's not just 'politics as usual.' Your opposing beliefs aren't what hurt me, it's the way you chose to express them that stung.

Water under the bridge, Amy. Water under the bridge. Let's all take a deep breath, sing a couple of verses of Kum-ba-yah, and eat some s'mores, smearing chocolate all over our faces and not giving a damn.

((((loca))))

xoxo.

Hey, at least the illiterate liberals tend to be LOTE speakers. The illiterate righties don't even have that excuse!

Democracy and free speech will be boring without them. and Liberals worry too much about others and will be at each others thoat without them. Both are needed to make life bearable.

Exactly. What's life without someone to sneer at for their lack of common sense?

Comon Gid, lighten up, I didnt mean to stereotype anyone really. but you see how quick you jump to "fire on gasoline"? We all have our limits and tolerances of course. but i think the right in general is more descipline than the left. that in itself is not a fault or something you should get upset about. i wish the left was more discipline than what it is now. But comparing me to the Klans? well ..... you could not be farther from the truth on this Gid. But I forgive you anyway.

that is really what i meant . and both sides have their share of "lack of common sense". Not anyone in particular, just the general outlook on things. and each side makes the other sharper and more careful. otherwise how would anyone know that they "lack common sense"? At least that is the hope.

Your opinions and statements have not been mine, but I appreciate the chance to discuss the issues with you.  I have found you very resolute in your positions, and that is not bad. I dont think either of us changed anyone's opinions, but at least we are better aware of the other's reasons for believing as they do.

Often times, it is hard for us to separate the opinions from the person.  Most people do tend to put themselves in another's shoes, but not in their head when debating issues that are near and dear to us.  So if I have offended you during those times, let me appologize as well.

And while things do get hot on some issues, I would hope that you do not shy away from the topics and forums in the future.

No, I don't think things ever got out of hand between us. I'm just trying to convince myself to take a step back and realize that it's not about winning. If I want to make my point heard, it's best to do it in a way that doesn't piss people off.
